ISO Standards and Certifications

ISO 45001 is a globally recognized standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS) that provides a framework for organizations to manage their health and safety responsibilities in a systematic and effective manner. The standard was developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to help organizations protect the health and safety of their employees and other interested parties, while ensuring compliance with applicable health and safety regulations.

ISO 45001 specifies the requirements for an OHSMS that an organization can use to develop its own OHSMS. The standard provides a framework for organizations to identify and control their health and safety risks, prevent work-related injuries and illnesses, and continually improve their health and safety performance. Some of the key requirements of ISO 45001 include:

  • Leadership and Worker Participation: Top management must provide leadership and commitment to the development, implementation, and continual improvement of the OHSMS, and workers must be actively involved in the system.
  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment: The organization must identify and assess its health and safety hazards and risks and implement controls to eliminate or minimize them.
  • Legal and Other Requirements: The organization must identify and comply with applicable legal and other requirements related to health and safety.
  • Objectives and Planning: The organization must establish health and safety objectives and develop plans to achieve them.
  • Implementation and Operation: The organization must implement and operate the OHSMS by providing the necessary resources, establishing roles and responsibilities, and communicating its health and safety objectives and performance to stakeholders.
  • Performance Evaluation: The organization must monitor and measure its health and safety performance and take corrective action when necessary to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Management Review: The organization must regularly review its OHSMS to ensure its continuing suitability, adequacy, and effectiveness.
